Hope: A Christmas Poem

Winter, for all its cold and drear
Is a season of hope overcoming fear.
Back through the ages, down through time,
There’s special hope at Christmastime.
One night long ago, a light
Came to this world, all wrapped in white.
The Savior of the world was born
To save our sin-sick world forlorn.
Oh, what hope was born that night,
Oh, what joy, oh, what a light.
But oh, what deep solemnity –
Yes, such hope, but they didn’t see.
And there is still in this days’ time
A special hope at Christmastime:
That this same Savior, just as He came
Will come and deliver His people from pain.
Oh, what great and blessed hope;
Better far than anyone wrote;
That someday soon this light will shine
And we’ll live in heaven for eternal time.
Yet, oh, what deep solemnity –
Yes, such hope; Oh Lord, may we see.
